Form a Posse. Do Jobs. Get Rich. Die Tryin'.

Walk into any spacer bar in any spaceport in the Twins, and you’ll run into the same sort of people, time and time again. A wise old safecracker once told me that there are four kinds of Guy in the universe:

Hotshots, Scumbags, Hitmen, and Weirdos.

Question is, stranger — which kind are you?

Hit! is a space western TTRPG about lowlife criminals and wannabe hustlers — a ragtag band of Guys who’ve formed a Posse to do a Job

To do that Job, you’ll play blackjack, trying your best to dodge bullets, grab the cash, and get out in one piece. You'll find all the tools you'll need to embark on your own chaotic and hilarious space heists in this 24-page zine, available now!

All you need to play is a deck of playing cards, some scratch paper, a couple of friends, and an hour to burn — which is all the time you'll need to make characters, brainstorm a Job, and then play it from start to finish, with absolutely no prep required

Hit! is perfect for those times when you're waiting for a player who's late or when you've wrapped up game night early and want to get in just one more game. Just shuffle up, deal, and Hit!

The Game

Gameplay in Hit! is simple and fast. At the start of each Job, each player gets a starting hand of two cards. Then, whenever they try to do anything risky, they'll take a Hit! and get dealt a new card.

If their total is lower than 21, they're good: they do whatever they set out to do. If they get exactly 21, they do whatever they set out to do extra well. If their total is higher than 21, their hand busts: they still accomplish their goal, but in the process they'll have attracted a lot of attention!

Whenever a player's hand busts, the Security clock advances: when that clock fills, the Posse will have attracted too much Heat and have to abandon the Job to heist another day.

The end result is a hilarious and hectic exercise in heistery, as the Posse fails forward from one bad situation to another, trying their damnedest to overcome the Obstacles that stand between them and doing whatever they came here to do. If they can deal with all of a Job's Obstacles, they'll have a straight line to grabbing the cash, stealing the blueprints, or whatever else you might dream up as something worth stealing.

Awesome game! I have a couple of questions:

 1) Could it be played without dedicated Dealer? Dealer seems to have pretty light duties and rules provide solid gameplay framework, so players just need to cooperatively insert some flavor here and there (I even assumed it’s GM-less by default after first reading the rules);

 2) What is the purpose of Weirdo Jack ability? As far as I understood the rules taking the whole deck will cause you to automatically bust when you take a Hit? Also then the whole deck should go to the discard pile but I can’t find a rule about what players should do if the deck runs out… Am I missing something?

1) You can absolutely play without a dedicated Dealer! It really depends on your playgroup, I think: in my experience playtesting, some groups really benefit from having a single player representing the Opposition to keep the action and moving, while others can totally do as you suggest and just come up with what the Opposition does as a group.

2) The Weirdo's Jack ability is pretty strange, right? You've got the rules all correct, but there's a fun unstated benefit that comes from swapping your Heat with the Deck: you know exactly which cards are in the Deck now! This is usually best if you've got 4 or more cards in your Heat (a bit rare but certainly not impossible), because you'll get dealt 1 card for the Hit and then 2 more for your new Heat after, but that means that you know exactly what cards are in the Deck and can plan around it for future Hits.

Basically, it's the Weirdo's roundabout way of stacking the Deck!

(There's an unstated assumption that if the Deck ever runs out, you just shuffle up the discard and keep dealing; that's a good note for me to explicitly to the FAQ, thanks!)

This is by far the best game I've played in 2025-- super dope, can't wait to see what's next!!
